Advanced Reactor Development

RadCon supports the development, manufacture and operation of advanced reactor concepts, specifically Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), with our expertise in neutronics, steady state calculations, and reactor dynamics.
These advanced reactors produce electricity of up to 300 MWe per module and are suitable for use in both single and multiple-unit plants. They can also combine nuclear energy with alternative sources.
The IAEA, which oversees the international nuclear industry, believes the technology has arrived at “an important milestone”, with there now being a global consensus that it has a vital role to play if the goal of net zero carbon emissions is to be reached. The agency has praised the flexibility and affordability that SMRs offer and believes they are a good option for replacing ageing fossil fuel-fired power plants. It highlights their suitability for remote regions with less developed infrastructure and praises their “enhanced safety performance.”
RadCon supports emerging companies with knowledge related specifically to reactors and to physics more generally. We can offer support by providing criticality and burn-up calculations. We also assess fission products and prepare activation inventories, and assist the developers of reactors by helping to calculate and collate all the data necessary for the application process with national authorities.
